Published by Bandai and developed by CyberConnect2, the .hack video game series is a fresh take on the console RPG format. The unique "game within a game" concept is complex and creative, but still user friendly. Game play involves switching between the Real World of your computer desktop (where you can contact other characters by email or watch internet "news" about what is going on in the Real World) and the artificial reality of the massively multiplayer game experience of The World (where you and other game characters play as avatars). While playing the scripted game in The World, you are also trying to solve a Real World mystery surrounding a harmful computer virus which is putting gamers into a coma in reality.
